The YIP targets a 'core 50' of young people who are living
in particular areas who are at risk of school exclusion or offending or
who are already offending. Each young person is allocated a key worker
who works with them to develop an individual programme. The programmes
on offer includes sports; a youth forum; personal development group work
covering topics such as anger management and conflict resolution, gun
crime, health, budgeting and citizenship; IT; performing arts; access
to counselling and referral to other agencies. The project works closely
with participants' parents.
The Youth Inclusion project has reduced crime consistently in the core
50 group over and above the YJB targets of 60%.
