Young People's Substance Misuse Team - Shropshire
The team is based within Shropshire County Council's Youth
Support Division, and emphasise on providing both drug and alcohol education
and treatment in a rural county. They do this by assessing individual
needs, providing one-to-one support such as counseling, providing and
identifying which treatment will be most effective in helping young people,
aged up to 19 years, to reduce the harmful effects of substances and to
maintain a positive and healthy lifestyle.
Alcohol accounts for 50 per cent of the referrals to the team. Young people
receive a comprehensive support package which ranges from support for
parents through to medical treatments. They also provide a range of services
from innovative harm reduction workshops in schools, to treatment for
young people in serious difficulties with drugs and alcohol. The team
also supports parents of young substance users and young people who have
experienced parental drug misuse.
