Project that aims end violence between rival schools by having the youth collaborate on a project and gain mutual respect for each other.
Who's involved?
Crime Concern
Who is it aimed at?
Youth, aged 12-14, at risk of exclusion from school.
How does it work?
This project aims to tackle inter-school rivalries in
Barnet, north London. Due to the increased tendencies for these rivalries
to spill out onto the street, and the presence of the knife and gun
culture, students at these schools conduct research into different crime
projects including underage sexual activity and knife crime. They interviewed
different teachers and police officers on these matters. All this led
up to the making of a DVD called Defendin' Love Hurtrz. This cooperation
between students and the sense of achievement looks to quell the hostility
between schools. The project which was funded with £1,000 from
London Council has just received further grants to continue its work
in addition to another £5,000 from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
