Community Payback - Islington
Runner up in the Innovation Category at the National Cleaner, Safer and Greener Conference.
A presentation to the conference by Janice Grant, Projects Officer for Street Environment Services, showed how Community Payback tackles crime and environmental issues, as well as helping to improve Islington. Offenders on the scheme can gain valuable skills and experience which in some cases give them a fresh start in life.
Sonia Scowcroft, from Keep Britain Tidy said: “The annual cleaner safer greener conference showcases the very best examples of environmental excellence. Organisations which have made great strides in improving their local area can be an inspiration to others. Judges were impressed with Islington’s Payback scheme where the goal was to improve residents’ quality of life.”
This is further evidence of how the Community Payback partnership makes a real difference by making London cleaner, safer and greener.
