Smart Justice Campaigns
SmartJustice runs targeted campaigns which focus on particular areas of the prison population. Our two current campaigns focus on the
record numbers of women and young people in prison. Does prison work for these particular groups and what we should be doing instead?
Both these campaigns have an alliance of supporters, promotional literature available, petitions to Government and a programme of talks
on the subject.
SmartJustice for Women is supported by Soroptimists International, the National Council of Women, The Catholic Women's League, Women in
Prison, the National Christian Association on Prostitution and the Greater London Domestic Violence Forum. SmartJustice for Women is campaigning for more alternatives to prison and projects that tackle the causes of women's offending.
SmartJustice for Young People is supported by the National Union of Students, the Princes Trust, the
National Youth Agency, Barnado´s, Kids Company and the Ascension Street Pastors.
It is campaigning for more alternatives to prison, more support for parenting, more
constructive activities for young people and more investment in projects that work with young people at risk of offending and tackle the
causes of their crimes.
SmartJustice on Drugs, Drink and Mental Health is our new campaign. It reveals the links between addictions, mental health and
crime and campaigns for more community solutions.
