The Women's Institute

The Women's Institute, is the largest women's organization in England and Wales, with 205,000 members.

At the WI Annual Conference in June 2008, they passed a historic resolution on the inappropriate imprisonment of the mentally ill in prison. This resolution is now their campaigning issue for 2008-9.

New Government Report

In December 2007, the Government announced it had asked Rt Hon Lord Keith Bradley to review the diversion of offenders with mental health problems or learning disabilities away from prison.

Lord Bradley is expected to report his findings in early 2009.
